A national waste management group has raised more than £8,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support following their second annual charity gala.
Employees and customers of GRG Waste UK were wined, dined and entertained at the winter wonderland themed event alongside their friends and family and took part in various fundraisers throughout the evening, including a silent auction, live auction, grand prize draw and lucky dip.
They had initially set a fundraising target of £5,000 for the charity event, however, their efforts exceeded expectations by raising a total of £8,336.06. This brings GRG Waste UK's total fundraising to almost £23k for charitable causes over the last two years.
The company chose to support Macmillan in memory of GRG’s Founder and Chairman, Alan Crowe who sadly passed away in March 2022 aged 74. Alan had been the President of the European Federation of Recycling (EFR) and Vice President of the Bureau International of Recycling (BIR). Alan was a true titan of the waste industry and is sadly missed by all of the GRG family.
Francine Collis, Marketing Manager at GRG Waste UK, organised the event and said: “I’m incredibly proud of the efforts our colleagues and customers made in supporting this fundraising campaign.
“Many of us will know someone whose life has been impacted by cancer. So, we’re delighted that we’ve been able to help Macmillan Cancer Support continue their vital work to support people living with cancer.”
Every day, 1,000 people in the UK hear the devastating news they have cancer, and Macmillan Cancer Support research report sets out that across the UK a total investment of around £170 million is needed. This is to fund the training costs of creating nearly 4,000 specialist cancer nurses required in 2030 to provide the care people need.
